Cabarete Eats: FinboxDelicious food and drinks with great vibesCabarete, Dominican Republic is known for its exceptional action and water sports conditions that draw in athletes from all over the globe. With this much passion and excitement in one place, you need somewhere to hang out, kick back some cold ones and talk about your adventures of the day. Finbox is the new kid on the block only opening back in April 2017. Despite this short amount of time, Finbox has become the evening hangout spot. Located at the start of town in front of Villa Taina Hotel, this nook is the Cabarete living room and encourages an awesome crowd. Whether you’re a local, regular or tourist, you get to meet some pretty interesting people. This chilled out welcoming atmosphere is thanks to the super cool and friendly owners Mario De La Maza and Enmanuel Knudsen. This hungry surfing duo wanted to offer affordable and fast food for active people without having to compromise on quality. They nailed it with a mouth water menu catering for all taste buds. With Mario’s Dominican flavors and Enmanuel’s Argentinian touch, the result is delicious sandwiches, burgers and tapas. Many have even claimed they serve up the best burgers in town and we agree!
In addition to the good vibes and great food, is Finbox’s fresh and scrumptious drink selection. Offering natural juices, fresh coconut water, homemade mamajuana and kombucha, rum and even the option to mix up your own combo. Whatever you’re feeling, they’ve got you covered. You can even squeeze in some quick shopping during your visit with a display of local sunglasses, prints, signs and signature Finbox clothing so you can take the chill vibes with you. Finbox is certainly a must visit. Open every day from 12pm-2:30pm, with a quick break, then again at 4:30pm-11:30 pm. This spot is also less than a minutes walk from our condos and even offer delivery! Easy peasy! What was your favorite item on the menu? Let us know in the comments below. Carnival in Cabarete has been met with enthusiasm and support, garnering a new tradition to embrace. Founded by local artisans and fortunate to receive the support of community, Cabarete Carnival is the first event in the country to include multiple locales such as the villages, downtown Main Street and beach for their parade. Carnival in the Dominican Republic is typically celebrated throughout the month of February, with famous parades held on the weekends in Puerto Plata, La Vega, and many other towns. Distinguished by its colorful costumes that symbolize religious and traditional characters, each town adds its own twist to the event. Carnival celebrations in the nation’s capital, Santo Domingo, along with Punta Cana, and the north coast beach town Cabarete, will be held in March. An exciting feature of Carnival is ‘Diablos del Atlantico’, a workshop for local children that will participate in the costume creation with artisans, and learn about the folklore, history, and culture of Carnival in the Dominican Republic. Cabarete Carnival will be held March 17, 2018, with a parade beginning in the Callejon de la Loma, proceeding down main street in the town center, and along the beach in front of the restaurants that line Cabarete Bay. For parade route and more details, please visit the official event Facebook and Instagram pages @carnavalcabareterd.
